Several years ago, I was discussing how brands, teams and athletes can utilize Snapchat, the rising social platform at the time, to increase fan engagement. Yes, I actually discussed this with my friends.
And fast forward to 2020, there’s another platform taking the world by storm, and it's TikTok! A new forecast has dubbed TikTok as the world’s third-largest social network, just behind Facebook and Instagram. It predicts that TikTok will reach 755.0 million monthly users in 2022, after seeing 59.8% growth in 2020, followed by 40.8% growth in 2021.
As a footballer who is aware of communication and fan engagement, I was really teased by TikTok, and it raises the question in my mind: should I join the hype?
I thought about giving it a try, and it's true that I finally created a TikTok account. But at the time, I still wanted to focus on Instagram.
One of the moments why I finally thought I should make TikTok was when in a meeting, I still remember clearly and it was a meeting with Honda Indonesia, they asked for my TikTok account. I said "no, my focus is on Instagram", but I mentioned that I'm very open to new things and aware about "new kid in town".
TikTok is now the leading short video platform. They managed to implement the concept of content distribution very well. The phrase “beyond social media” is now becoming a reality and TikTok is one that has succeeded in making it happen.
One of the interesting things for me is that TikTok also has started to focus on sports content. Indeed, the content is 'the king', we also need the great distribution content which is 'the queen'. I even read recently that TikTok broadcasted La Liga on their platform. This shows that the world and the sports industry are important variables in realizing the concept of content distribution.
It became valuable knowledge and I decided to start sharing my story on TikTok with the audience. Never say NO to 'evolving', that's the motto I've always stuck to. Through TikTok I will embark on an adventure of change with a new platform to share my story with.
Last but not least, by starting TikTok, I am able to reach a younger and new audience beyond the audience I had from the previous platform. I can't wait to start the creative process and seize new opportunities from this platform!
So it's a good time to say: Here We Go. Done deal between Marc Klok and TikTok!
